SHJA SCHOLARSHIPS

SHJA Carol Windham Scholarship:

The SHJA Carol Windham Scholarship is awarded annually to individuals that lend their time, hard work, knowledge and love for horses to the local equine community. The award is in memory and honor of Carol Windham, who, despite a courageous battle with cancer, to which she succumbed at a young age, exemplified the qualities that this award represents.  Carol was an SHJA member and very active in the local equestrian community.  She was also the recipient of the 2009 SHJA Sportsmanship award.

The two selected recipients will each receive a $500 scholarship; these funds can be used towards local SHJA Sanctioned show entry fees, and other associated costs. Other associated costs include but are not limited to, shipping, schooling and trainer fees.  Special requests for scholarship fund usage can be made to the scholarship committee.

The Scholarship aims to recognize those individuals, who like Carol Windham, show dedication to the sport, SHJA, and the horses beyond their time spent in the show ring. The Scholarship also aims to accelerate growth and foster learning throughout the year for the scholarship candidates.  The scholarship recipients will be individuals that do not necessarily receive recognition ringside, but are a driving force behind the scenes of our local farms and whom without; our trainers; horses and riders could not be successful. Some characteristics to be considered may include: positive attitude, helpfulness to others, willingness to learn, care of animals, service to SHJA and dedication to the sport of riding and showing horses.
